DRC Legal Resources: Dynamique des Femmes Juristes

BACK TO ARTICLES>

Congolese national law provides a strong framework for protection against sexual violence in conflict and domestic situations. As in all countries experiencing conflict, implementation of rule of law can be challenging. Fortunately, there are a range of national and international organizations that are doing just that. One such program is Dynamique des Femmes Juristes (DFJ). Founded in 2001 by a group of female lawyers based in Goma who decided to take action to protect vulnerable women from sexual and gender-based violence, DFJ educates and informs local populations - both men and women - on Congolese law and the consequences of rights violations. DFJ also supports the survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in eastern Congo, providing legal assistance to women across the province.
